Preparing for subsea operations

Scottish Power view seismic data in ArcGIS to identify subsurface constraints

Scottish Power Renewables, as part of Iberdrola, is the world’s largest wind energy developer, with an operating portfolio of over 14,000 megawatts.

They are responsible for progressing onshore wind and marine energy projects in the UK and offshore windfarms throughout the world, managing the development, construction and operation of all projects.

During the planning phase of offshore cable installation it is important to identify subsurface constraints that should be avoided. Scottish Power use Seismic Explorer for ArcGIS for viewing seismic data over areas of identified or known subsurface infrastructure (cables, etc.) and artefacts/constraints, to further QC the identified targets confirmed by consultants that have undertaken studies for them.

By using Seismic Explorer for ArcGIS we identified the need for having a higher resolution survey so that cables could be identified in future.
